Fashion Workshop - A Recap

Hi all,
I am ecstatic about the turnout of the the "Let's Talk Fashion" Workshop at Walnut Grove Cultural Center last weekend. What a great event! I felt so honored that I got a chance to discuss one of the most important things about fashion in general - why we should even care in the first place! On top of giving many, MANY reasons why we should consider fashion as an important tool in our daily lives, I suggested ways to cut down budget, maintain your clothes, organize your closets, find the right shapes to fit your body-type, and find the colors that suit you best.

One story I would like to share with you is about a woman who approached me after the workshop, with questions about how best to clothe her shape. She recently underwent a stomach surgery due to cancer, and it left her with an unusually large tummy area. This was causing an undue focal point on her body and she decided to attend the workshop in hopes of camouflaging this area and learn to choose the right clothes that will fit her best. Her sincerity and openness to take my advice was in itself one of the most memorable moments of the entire day. Here is a breakdown of what I suggested to her:

- To hide a tummy, the first thing you want to do is find blouses and dresses that have a higher waistline. The waistline should hit just under the ribcage, (which is actually the smallest part of a woman's waist). Also, wear skirts that are A-line which will de-emphasize the tummy. Stay away from blouses that are too clingy and instead, choose ones that are longer and more flowy.

She was already very tall and beautiful, so I know with just a little adjustment in her wardrobe, she will definitely be one chic lady!

Thank you to all who attended!
